Fashion’s Night Out: Eat, Drink and Be Merry

Fashion's Night Out

Anna Wintour can add one more bullet point to her illustrious resume: economist.

In an effort to provide some recessionary relief to retailers, the Vogue editrix, along with the Council of Fashion Designers of America, is urging shoppers to start swiping their plastic once again.

Enter tonight’s Fashion’s Night Out, an evening of bi-coastal shopping events and designer demonstrations.

There are a plethora of parties taking place throughout the city–many of them even look fun.

But let’s be honest–the real reason to hit any fete during a downturn is simple: free food and drink.

Here are our picks for the most notable noshing:

Fred Segal/ Ron Herman Melrose
7 to 11 p.m.
8100 Melrose Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90046

(323) 651-4129

The fashion: Our head is spinning from the extensive and notable lineup scheduled at the Melrose Ave. style Mecca. Designer appearances include Whitley Kros’ Sophia Coloma and Marissa Ribisi, Paige Adams-Geller from Paige Premium Denim and Rory Beca. Maison Martin Margiela staff will present archive pieces from the illusive clothier, artist Michael Norice will bedazzle custom Nike kicks while Pete Wentz plays games with the customers. Weird, wild stuff indeed.

Why we’re really going: Itty-bitty pizzas from Mauro’s Cafe and humongous ice cream sandwiches from the Cool Haus truck (complete with mind-boggling edible wrappers) are reason enough for us to leave home.

American Rag Cie
5:30 to 9 p.m.
Fashion Island
953 Newport Center Dr.
Newport Beach, CA 92660

(949) 760-1510

The fashion: The O.C. incarnation of La Brea Ave.’s popular clothing purveyor is hosting a trunk show with four brands including 12th Street by Cynthia Vincent.

Why we’re really going: Various bite-sized hors d’oeuvres from the store’s Café Beau Soleil might just be small enough to fit in our purse.

Neiman Marcus
6 to 9 p.m.
9700 Wilshire Blvd.
Beverly Hills, CA 90212

(310) 550-5900

The fashion: Jazz music, fashion shows, free gifts with purchase and Vogue’s Lisa Love at the helm of a 7 p.m. trend presentation.

Why we’re really going: Nathan’s New York-style hot dogs and cheesecake. We prefer our beef Chicago-style, but this will have to do.

Moods of Norway
113 S. Robertson Blvd.
Beverly Hills, CA

(310) 271-7172

The fashion: 70% off the store’s entire stock of quirky, Nordic fashion.

Why we’re really going: Wine and waffles, the true breakfast of champions (and what we’d wake up to if others wouldn’t pass judgment).

Roseark
6 to 10 p.m.
1111 N. Crescent Heights Blvd.
West Hollywood, CA 90046

(323) 822-3600

The fashion: A showcase of bejeweled hardware by jewelry designers Katey Brunini, Kathy Rose, Robbie Conal, Deanna Hamro and Mannin—just to name a few.

Why we’re really going: Free champagne and a tarot card reader. Because nothing beats learning your fate when you’re buzzed enough to actually believe it.
