Headbands were an unexpected accessory on the red carpet last night. And though the hair accoutrement tends to spark fierce debate, we happen to be major fans.

Hallelujer! Our favorite color ever was everywhere at the Golden Globes last night — most noticeably in accessories. From emerald earrings to Kelly green beaded clutches, it looked as if St. Patty’s day came early in L.A. Here are a few of our favorites.

Zooey Deschanel. Her Prada dress was a little “oops, I threw up on my bodice.” But the bag is dope.

Juliana Margulies eschewed green jewelry’s typical classic, Art Deco stigma with a pair of off-the-beaten-path earrings to accent her Naeem Khan gown. We dig.

The combination of Julianne Moore’s black Chanel gown, emerald green tasselled earrings and red hair made us gasp with delight. And not just because we have red hair and wish we were Julianne Moore, too.

Debra Messing. Another red head who does green proud.

Even Johnny Depp got in on the fun, with a bitchin’ green vest. But, uh, are those puka shells?

We don’t think we’d care to be friends with Glee actress Lea Michelle if we met her on the street. But, we would happily consider robbing her of this ridiculously ridiculous emerald ring.

Old Hollywood has lost another great with the death of movie star Jane Russell, who passed away yesterday at the age of 89. The pouty lipped actress found fame in 1943, when she appeared in the Howard Hughes film “The Outlaw” and refused to wear a — dare we say it — “slutty” bra that Hughes designed especially for her. The aviation tycoon staged a major promotional campaign promoting Russell’s ample, uh, assets and went to war with censors over provocative shots used in the film. And though Russell later appeared in classic movies including “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” with Marilyn Monroe, she never quite enjoyed the A-list status of her peers.

In the fashion department, Russell was known for floppy hats, pin up-quality swimsuits, a penchant for sequins and low-cut, sweetheart neck halter tops and dresses. And despite the bombshell visions her name evokes, it turns out that Russell was a politically conservative Christian. Imagine that.

Reese Witherspoon stayed true to her Legally Blonde roots showing up to the 2011 Oscars wearing this black and white Giorgio Armani Privé number, NOT Jessica McClintock (as some naysayers hacked).

Our opinion? Reese, you looked ADORABLE.

The high blonde pony matched the rich black velvet gown trimmed with ivory satin perfectly and transformed the Elle Woods actress into Oscar Barbie — a look that could have been taken straight from the original 1959 Barbie doll.

Perhaps Mattel missed an Oscar sponsorship opportunity here?

The “In Memoriam” section of the Oscars gets me every year. And this year was no exception, with Halle Berry offering a lovely tribute to the late Lena Horne. When a clip was shown from Horne’s 1943 film Stormy Weather, I couldn’t help wish that Lena was walking down tonight’s red carpet in the stunning fringe and sheer gown seen in the clip. Her exceptional sense of style would have fit right in (if not exceeded) this evening’s fashion fold. Below, a longer portion of Horne’s film that was shown during the Oscars.

Anne Hathaway’s beaded, fringed, one-shoulder ensemble worn during one particularly genius costume change is, uh, genius.

Sure, Armani may be showing a slightly looser silhouette in Milan at the moment. But in the 1959 film North by Northwest, legendary movie star Cary Grant set the standard for gray suits. And today, on what would have been Grant's 107th birthday, his Quinto of Beverly Hills-tailored creation looks as sexy as ever. It's pictures like this that make me miss taking the train to work in Chicago, where a formal office dress code is —last time I checked — still enforced in certain circles. Sure, L.A. may have the 86-degree January days. But our neighbors to the East definitely have us beat when it comes to morning rush hour eye candy.

Super stylist Tara Swennen — who has dressed starlets including Kristen Stewart, Mila Kunis and Kate Beckinsale — is the latest celebrity stylemaker to create a collection for HSN.

As part of the Hot in Hollywood line of contemporary trend-focused offerings, Swennen’s goods include velvet blazers, cozy capes and one-shoulder dresses. Cute stuff.

We had the pleasure of sitting next to Swennen at a dinner a few weeks back and must say that she is one of the coolest fashion personalities we’ve ever come in contact with (the fact that she shares our love of both the Olive Garden and cheese rolls from Red Lobster could have something to do with our high regard). We also found her excitement for the then-upcoming HSN appearance a refreshing change from the standard jaded responses we’re used to hearing from industry pros who get to do very cool things.

Like Rachel Zoe’s collection before her (coincidentally, Swennen assisted Zoe at the beginning of her career), this HSN line is wallet friendly ranging from just $19.90 for a headband to $129.90 for a sequin dress and is available now on television and HSN.com.

Though we just wrote all about legendary costume designer Edith Head on our homepage, we thought she deserved another Style Section L.A.-sanctioned nod in honor of her birthday. Head, who was nominated for 35 Oscars throughout her career, died in 1981 at the age of 83. And despite using someone else’s sketches to land a costuming job at Paramount in the 1920s and, uh, forgetting to credit Hubert de Givenchy for his designs in Sabrina, her contributions to modern style are still too many to count.
