NYFW Fall 2012: Kimberly Ovitz’ gothic beauties

Leandra Medine of the Man Repeller stalked around in sky-high platforms, zillions of bracelets and polka dotted tights. As one of the most visible girls in fashion this second, she came off as queen of the effortlessly cool-and-young crew at Kimberly Ovitz’s fall 2012 show, which went down at Pace Gallery in New York yesterday.

The gallery’s wooden, barn-like ceiling gave way to a simple black backdrop framing a row of leafless brown trees. It all suggested that we had just entered a dark and cold forest — but a stylish one, of course.

Designer Kimberly Ovitz — who, right out of the gate has been one of L.A.’s most reliably rad designers — showed a collection of mostly black, tough-girl looks featuring skin-revealing slits, exquisite draping and bold plays on traditional proportions (see the longy-shorty dress, above.)

Most models  marched down the runway wearing black human hair attachments — echoing the black-heavy vibe of New York Fashion Week so far. Who needs the sun when darkness looks so chic?

The black mini dress with side trains (photo at left) looks fab on the runway!
