Annie Flanders, the founder of the original Details magazine — which chronicled downtown New York’s edgy fashion and nightlife scene before being sold to Conde Nast and turning into milquetoast — was the guest of the evening at last week’s LACMA/Costume Council screening of “Bill Cunningham New York.”
We snapped her on a crap camera at the party afterward, but were tickled to make her acquaintance.
She’s carrying a mallard muff, made by, of all people, Bill Cunningham, who back in the day had a hat company.
Flanders helped kick-start Cunningham’s career by basically giving him carte blanche to shoot and run anything he wanted in her mag. She’s all over the documentary, too.

I worked for Annie @ Details Magazine….

Sweet Annie,
So long! I live in Taos, N.M so many great memories of you and your daughter. My daughter is almost 17! I recently got a proposal to start a semi underground magazine based in NYC. I can fly out and get the talent and fashion shoots done, what do you think? Lots of love, Saskia. Be my friend on Facebook Saskia van Der Lingen and see pics of my daughter.
Annie! Aaaaaagggghhh. I am watching Bill Cunningham and what a great thing to see you. I worked for you in ’87 as your receptionist. Please contact me at my email address if you see this mesage.
