‘Fashion Los Angeles’ looks to revive L.A. Fashion Week

Looks like there’s another entity looking to bring an official L.A. Fashion Week back into play.

Fashion Los Angeles has sent out an invite for a “groundbreaking” presentation on Sept. 15 (invite only) to introduce itself to L.A. The organization has announced that it will debut a spate of presentations/runway shows/etc. in February 2011 in downtown L.A.

And while it’s incredibly tempting to dismiss any organization looking to breathe life into a event that never really made sense in L.A. anyway, we have to give it to Fashion Los Angeles for making major plans.

The organization will commandeer a bunch of buildings in downtown L.A. for its self-contained fashion weeks — offering big and small venues for designers. And in the meantime, they’re running a series of events, including blogger-focused shindigs and a downtown Pop-Up shop erected for this coming fashion week.

No designers have been announced for February yet — which, of course, will make or break this endeavor — and the partners behind the organization aren’t obvious players; Michael Venedicto is a producer for high-profile awards shows and fashion presentations, among other things, and Jeff Warrington is a graphic designer who focuses on niche-oriented brand identity development and marketing communications. But at this postmortem stage, we think Fashion Week can be anyone’s game.
