Funny, we’ve never seen Marc Jacobs at the beach here. Usually when he visits L.A. he’s spotted at the abbey in a high-backed booth alongside 22-year-olds or cozied up at the Chateau Marmont. But now he’s designed a surfboard, following in the steps of other luxury brands like Chanel that just couldn’t help themselves. We’re guessing they’re not giving Channel Islands a run for its money, as we’ve seen neither board in the water this summer. Though we admit both designer labels have managed to make a statement on huge hunks of fiberglass boards. Chanel keeps its boards simple and classy, while Marc Jacobs plays with both color and humor, much like his tattoos. —Nicole Hayden
