New denim trends (finally) for fall 2010

Screen shot 2010-07-06 at 3.32.44 PMAt the Denim by Premiere Vision tradeshow in Paris last month, designers gathered to discuss market visions for next season’s denim trends.  Brace yourself; the “jegging” will finally lose some luster, giving way to jeans with clean lines, wider legs and lean silhouettes. And while skinnies don’t need to be shelved just yet, they are definitely taking a back seat to chinos and trousers.

Adriano Goldschmied explained the new aesthetic to Women’s Wear Daily as “the clean look,” which we’ve actually been seeing since spring (J Brand Houlihan cargo “jeans,” anyone?). The denim mogul went on to explain that “the future of denim design, at least a premium level, is a kind of luxury look in denim, using new fibers like Tencel, micro modal and Cupro. It’s not about cotton anymore.”

Though things are definitely changing, die-hard fans of stretchy, skinny denim need not fear.  WWD asserts that skinnies will still be a trend for a few more years. Bottom line, new denim aesthetics mean more choices for shoppers. No complaints here!
