I know I really adore something in fashion when I emit an audible — but completely subconscious — sigh that says “ooooh, it’s that lovely?” Such was my reaction to Stella McCartney‘s Resort 2010/2011 collection.
Packing early 1960s silhouettes — including the babydoll, the swing coat and the smock dress — juxtaposed with 80s elements, including a structured pink Miami Vice pants suit, the collection is at once an ode to minimalism and a tip of the hat to early Balanciaga-style architectural construction.
And the fabrics are divine — especially the bold, big printed florals, which instantly make all the ditzy (or small) ’80s florals on the market look about as interesting as a Jimmy Buffet t-shirt.
