Artist Nick Cave’s phantasmagorical “Soundsuits,” the 10-foot-tall creations that recently graced the windows of Neiman Marcus (see our story on best LA shop windows here), took up residency at UCLA’s Fowler museum with the sublime exhibit earlier this spring with “Nick Cave: Meet Me at the Center of the Earth.”
Sadly the suits will be grooving on elsewhere as of May 30. But on Saturday, May 22, KCRW will fete the show with an all-ages campus dance party featuring Garth Trinidad and Jason Bentley.
The party also features pop-up poetry readings and a design-your-own soundsuit experiment, using “pom-poms, sequins, buttons and more” — which struck me at first as the sort of summer camp crafts project I always desperately tried to avoid. Then again I don’t have much in the way of designer vision; perhaps some OTIS students in attendance will turn it up and create something amazing.
