It seems that Craigslist has branched out from their standard formula of used furniture, apartment rentals and creepy missed connections (yeah, wait by the phone buddy. That girl you made eyes with on the bus is sure to call any time now). The killer of newspaper classifieds has started a video channel on YouTube and is chronicling the adventures of Craigslist users as they hunt for whatever treasures they desire.
And today, featured on YouTube’s homepage, is the story of Michael Mullen, an aspiring fashion designer who posted an ad seeking Sandra Bullock in hopes of dressing her for the Oscars.
The video series, produced by Brownstone Entertainment, shows Mullen traipsing L.A. as he buys fabric (homeboy spent $837 on fabric at International Silks and Woolens on Beverly Blvd.), gets chided by his mother (“What are you hoping to accomplish from this, Michael? You don’t even have a dollar.”) and stands atop a Hollywood parking garage in a feathered boa screaming for Sandy. In part two, we see Mullen attempt to produce a photo shoot using a Sandra Bullock-esque model that he — you guessed it — found off Craigslist.
The cute, mid-day distraction will have a new episode posted each week and, we’re told, eventually features L.A.-based publicists Margaret Schell and Sara Stein of S.PR as they help Mullen on his quest.
We’ll tune in again.
But if you remember the breathtaking gold Marchesa gown Bullock wore to the Oscars, we already know how the story ends.
