Straw hats may feel retro, but they couldn’t look more modern. Contributing stylist Mary Frances Van Dyke picks her favorites for Spring:

Le Cerise Sur Le Chapeau Trendy Summer Panama Hat, $230.
This summery hat is a prime example of the craftsmanship and style behind French company Le Cerise Sur Le Chapeau (“cherry on the hat”). It’s a more refined version of the popular fedora in natural straw, with a simple ribbon band and raised back.

The Vince is a classic shape as well as a bestseller for Eugenia Kim. I’m swooning over this one, seen here in deep black with a double rope detail.

Hat Attack Mini Cowboy Hat, $58.
A cowboy hat certainly makes a statement, and it’s usually not a good one. This smaller striped version is playful and wearable. I see it paired perfectly with a bikini on the beach.
The large brim of the Bobo Hat offers the ultimate in sun protection and style. Detailed with a delicate twine bow, it’s a stylish invitation to be bold!
The ultimate fedora comes from Los Angeles boutique Ariane. Made by hand, it is composed of tiny rows of straw braids and finished with a simple black band. If you aren’t sold, master milliner Ariane will design and produce a hat to meet your exact specifications.
