More red-carpet looks from last night’s Met Ball in New York:
Nicole Richie, clad in a cool Marc Jacobs silver gown (I love that she’s tiny, but always covers up), was almost unrecognizable with her new dark hair. But man, does it make her eyes pop.
Gwen Stefani looked magical in a L.A.M.B. confection last night that was a little Rodarte-style webby, but more screen siren glamorous. Her handsome hubby, Gavin Rossdale, made a great accessory (I really hope the recent rumors that he cheated on her with Courtney Love are untrue…but does crazy Courtney ever lie?)
Speaking of Rodarte, the label’s muse, Kirsten Dunst, wore Rodarte for Gap to the bash — a dress that was all prom on top, 100 percent Stevie Nicks on the bottom. What do you think of it?
Chloe Sevigny lives for short dresses, so I’m glad she didn’t abandon her passion for minis last night. I love the doll-like quality of this lace teal frock. And the shoes? Fuhgettaboutit. Genius.
Ouch, Carey Mulligan. We want to herald you, as the global fashion press does, as a trend-setter. But this Miu Miu ensemble is downright dour. Opaque black tights read “quirky” on the red carpet of a minor benefit, but the Met Ball is the World Series of fashion. Gotta represent!

SJP was representing one of the classic American sportswear brands — Halston — last night. And as the resurrected brand’s new creative director, it wasn’t surprising. It was merely disappointing. Her tiny frame calls for a fitted bodice…always. She looks likes she’s going for a swim.
Elizabeth Banks is such a cool girl — one of those celebs who chats up reporters in a natural, non-forced way. But her look is way too sunny to carry off this dark-side ensemble from Gucci. And whoever talked her into pairing that busy dress with those busy tights and even busier heels needs to pay.

Emma Watson looked so gorgeous. She was my favorite of the night!
