I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, interning was so far the most enjoyable experience of my career. Sure, having to beg your parents to fill up your tank and not being able to go out for lunch majorly sucks. But when the only pressure in the room is the pressure you put on yourself so you can one day get paid to do what you love, cool things happen.
Which is why I was so excited when our friends at LACMA asked if we knew a few good fashion students to intern on an upcoming project with artist Gary Baseman. On June 12, Muse—the museum’s young collectors group—is hosting ArtWalk 2010: The Los Angeles Arts and Music Festival and Gary Baseman, who is known for his, uh, provocative cartoons, is creating costumes that will be modeled at the event. And they need to be conceptualized and assembled.
According to LACMA, the internship requires meeting with Baseman to “discuss your artistic vision and working with LACMA to get the supplies and space you need. Once the vision for the piece is established, you can work at your own pace whenever you like.”
Sounds like a pretty genius gig to me.
The museum is looking for candidates to start immediately and work through June 12 or sooner, depending on when the costume is finished.
