I’m holding my TiVo responsible for failing to alert me of a Charlie Rose segment from Friday that featured the NYT’s Cathy Horyn, one of my favorite, tell-it-like-it-is fashion critics. She joined Narciso Rodriguez, Elle editor-in-chief Roberta Myers and J. Crew CEO Mickey Drexler to discuss the direction of American fashion.
Horyn is typically more deadpan in her delivery for the NYT’s audio segments on fashion week, but she was no less entertaining and insightful on Rose. Sportswear is back in, she asserts, while frilly, girly monstrosities, some allegedly communicating some sort of postmodern significance, are out. She also pointed out something I had only vaguely noticed: that young designers are using a lot of luxury materials, namely fur.
