Have you noticed Jeff Bridges’ countrified demeanor lately?
The mighty thespian has swept the Best Actor category this awards season — and is almost assured to win the Oscar — for his portrayal of alcoholic country singer Bad Blake in Crazy Heart.
But he seems to be having trouble extricating himself from his slow-talking, pants-hoisting character.
His acceptance speeches at both the Screen Actors Guild awards and Golden Globes were given in a pseudo-country accent, and though he was certainly more spruced up, Bad Blake’s Lucky Strike, I’ve-been-driving-all-night vibe (and long oiled coif) remained.
And at the Grammy Awards, where Bridges presented an award, he was Bad to the bone: sporting an unbuttoned country-style shirt and what might have been polyester Wrangler pants (see photo).
Personally, I’m waiting for him to revive the jelly shoes, robe and stained shorts he wore in The Big Leboowski as “The Dude.” Now that’s a look with legs.
