The fashion industry’s response to the Haitian crisis has been all over the map, from the truly noble (Gisele’s $1.5 million donation to the Red Cross) to the laudable (Gap Inc’s $150,000 grant to Mercy Corps via the Gap Foundation) to the seemingly perfunctory (Macy’s, the nation’s largest department store chain with $23.6 billion in annual revenue, gave $50,000 to the Red Cross; no word if they’ve since donated more).
In a second wave of support, two American fashion titans are coming out with their own clothes-for-a-cause campaign. On Feb. 12, the Council of Fashion Designers of America will begin selling its $25 Fashion for Haiti T-shirt, manufactured by Theory and available at www.cfda.com.
Meanwhile, Ralph Lauren has unveiled its $98 Haiti charity polo (shown here and available at RL’s online store)—all proceeds of which will go to benefit continuing relief operations.
