Trends: Golden Globes 2010 Fashion

Looking back on all the finery of last night’s Golden Globes, we were smacked in the face with some very obvious trends that took shape:

Green, Green, Green

Marion

Jane Lynch, Marion Cotillard, Gabourey Sidibe and Amy Adams all gussied up in shades of green — from forestĀ  to chartreuse to midnight verde. Green is especially flattering on redheads and blondes, accenting blue and green eyes and making pale skin look pinky.

One-shouldered gowns

This might have been the biggest trend of the night. It felt like everyone went for a one-shouldered gown, from Amy Poehler (in a red belted number) and Jennifer Aniston (in a simple black sheath) to Maggie Gylenhaal (in a drool-worthy deconstructed peach sheath) and Drew Barrymore (in her flesh-colored sea-anemone dress.) I’m sure, as of this morning, cheapie dress maker ABS Allen Schwartz has a dozen such frocks in production .

Headbands

January Jones

Okay, so there was only Carey Mulligan (wearing a diamond bracelet as a headband) and January Jones (wearing a wide black silk headband) — but dress-up headbands are due for a little time in the spotlight. We’re sick of flowers and feathers already.

Red lips

Drew Barrymore, January Jones, Jennifer Morrison and Christina Hendricks all went for deep crimson pouts — always a strong look on the red carpet. What’s interesting is that Mad Men starlets Hendricks and Jones always say they want to look different from their show’s characters, but they clearly can’t escape them. But that’s the power of red lipstick for you: Once you find your shade and see how good you look in it, there’s no denying its ability to make you look ahhh-some.

Blush and nude tones

Emily Blunt, Drew Barrymore and Chloe Sevigny all donned nude- or blush-colored confections to the big show — letting their hair and makeup take center stage. I think Blunt pulled it off particularly well with her chiffon blush-hued strapless gown (the insanely perfect body underneath it didn’t hurt). And I couldn’t get enough of her just-off-the-beach coif. No need to be stuffy, right?
