On Sunday, after a long wait and a few minor bumps along the road, Babycakes NYC finally opened up to a packed house here in L.A.
“Unforeseen construction issues” nixed their original plans for an outpost near The Grove, the Babycakes team decided to take their vegan goodness Downtown to East Sixth street. While some may curse the grimy one-way streets, bad parking and mystery odors that haunt Downtown, others may find it ironically befitting for the Lower East Side transplants. The shop is small and cozy, and smiling faces welcome you into a world of cupcakes and kitsch. The vinyl records and other retro riff-raff are (like most) a little forced, but mostly just adorable and the cute shop girls are icing on the (cup)cake.
At about $20 for a half-dozen, they’re a little pricey, but rich in flavor. So before you declare cupcakes “so 2009,” you should stop by Babycakes for some seriously yummy (and wheat-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, egg-free, & soy-free) treats that won’t totally kill your 2010 resolutions.
Oh, and check out their totally adorable video about the move below.
