The Bob Haircut Turns 100. We’re Still Loving It.

Louise+Brooks+Black+HelmetI live a layered existence, follicly speaking, but I will forever love a blunt bob haircut.

And as a woman, there’s good reason to: The bob was a scandalously rebellious ‘do when it first appeared in 1910 — a symbol that womens’ civil rights were not to be trounced on!

In recent years, the coif’s come back in a big way. And in Hollywood, everyone from Katy Perry to Gwynth Paltrow to Alexa Chung has sported a version (or many different versions, in the case of Vickie Beckham) of the same-length ‘do.

But perhaps no one has ever worn a bob as well as silent film legend Louise Brooks, who helped make the slick style a worldwide phenomenon in the 1920s with her shiny, pixie bob cut. We bow down.
