I love costume jewelry.  In fact, I dare say I love it more than fine jewelry. Who cares about a diamond? Who can even tell the difference? Costume jewelry, on the other hand, has so many possibilities.  And when it’s good, it’s really good.

This great line just came to my attention. Designer Nicolette Mishkan, graduate of Otis College of Art & Design, has launched Black Mermaid, a hand-made, one-of-a-kind costume jewelry collection that uses fabrics (such as silk, chiffon and lace) with real onyx, pearls and Swarovski crystals.

The necklaces, which are really just gorgeously embellished handkerchiefs,  are tie-backs so you can easily adjust it to the length of your choice. The prices range depending on the gemstone, from $100 to $450.
