Needless to say we prefer this David LaChapelle production to the photographer’s recent campaign for Christian Audigier.
With Daphne Guinness as muse, LaChapelle’s “Exposure of Luxury” and “Berlin Stories” images for auto scion Maybach features charred landscapes (perhaps a little too reminiscent of the Station Fire this fall) and an orgiastic 1932 New Year’s Eve party (the little girl amongst the carnal wreckage is a bit creepy and mystifying, thankfully she’s at least averting her eyes). Otherwise, the word exquisite comes to mind.
Parent company Daimler gave LaChapelle carte blanche for the campaign, the automaker’s press team asserts: “With creative freedom entrusted to LaChapelle by Maybach, he created photos that whisk the observer ot a world filled with luxurious extravagance that features LaChapelle’s celebrated surreal tableaux.”
Thanks to Homotology for pointing out this campaign. —Paul Dexter
