The body of 20 year-old South Korean model Daul Kim, who walked the runways for the likes of Alexander McQueen and Karl Lagerfeld, was found hanging in her Paris apartment yesterday. So, so sad.
Even sadder is that Kim kept a blog where she vented about the pressures of a life described as “lonely.” Eerily, her final entry, posted on Wednesday, was titled “say hi to forever.”
The Times of London mentions past blog posts where Kim described self-mutilation and suicide, including one graphic entry that read “I am going to smash my face… My life as daul was so
miserable and lonely. Please join my loneliness in another world. I love you all. Daul.” She then added “KIDDING. Im fine. Just tired.”
And even more tragic, Kim appeared on the cover of the current issue of Australian fashion glossy Russh with the headline “More Than This.”
But what makes me feel the worst is imagining how empty life must have felt for the young girl before carrying out her grisly goal. When your friends
and loved ones mention loneliness and depression–whether in a blog or in live conversation, followed by “I’m kidding” or not–please take it seriously and let them know that they aren’t alone. This life is a tough one, no matter how charmed it seems. And no one can do it without a shoulder to lean on along the way.
