From the fine people at MTV who brought us The Hills and The Real World comes Styl’d, a glimpse into the lives of five junior stylists vying for a contract with the L.A.-based Margaret Maldonado Agency, aka the place you want taking your 10% if you’re in the business of dressing celebrities.
Schooling these young coffee-fetching lads on the industry are senior stylists Jen Rade, Eric Archibald and Julie Weiss, who each have a prestigious list of editorial credits larger than some newsstands.
The show premiered last Sunday night and already seems to be a primer on what not to do– while styling, working or just wading through the general scheme of everyday life.
For example, you should not accept a side job with your bosses client when even the janitor at your company likely doesn’t know your name. It’s just not done.
Unfortunately for junior stylist Brett, a strapping young man who worked enough Midwestern mall jobs to constitute him a fashion expert, the above memo was never received.
In this clip from next Sunday’s episode, airing at 10 p.m. ET/PT, we see Rade calmly chewing out our spiky-haired hero for acting like such an amateur, despite his excuse of “needing to put food in his fridge.”
Since I’ve steamed more than a few garments in my day for nothing more than sarcasm and a texted thank you note, I offer Brett this advice: The Korean market sells ramen noodles for $1 less than Ralph’s.
