The Find: Project Runway In-a-Box

Screen shot 2009-10-26 at 4.49.43 PMHoping to be the next Coco, Yves or Marc but have no desire to whore yourself out on reality television (or simply too young to know what ‘whore’ actually means)?

Have no fear…it appears that Project Runway toys are here!

The selection of DIY fashion design art project kits have been around for at least a year, but I just discovered them on Target.com today– major score.

Each kit, which the manufacturer says are appropriate for ages 8 and up, comes with different pieces of beginning-designer accouterment including colored pencils, sketchbooks, a projector and even a 12 inch wooden mannequin.

A handbag kit and jewelry kit each have inspirational images in the box, while a more complete dress making set (my personal pick) includes swatches, trims, a spool of thread and sequins.

There are even a la carte extras such as a marking set, a sewing basket and a cute sewing machine-shaped pin cushion stamped with the show’s logo.

This entire collection would have been at the top of my Chanukah wish list circa 1993, right next to Molly, the 1940s-era America Girl doll (I would have used the kit to make Molly-sized clothes so I could sell them to the neighbors. Would have beat the hell out of nickel-and-dime lemonade stands).

In fact, I think I know what I’m asking for this year (mom, I hope you’re reading this–I never did get that doll).
