In the midst of a rather abysmal L.A. Fashion Month Week, a bright spot surfaced last night — in the form of a group show at the Petro Zillia boutique.
Petro Zillia owner and designer Nony Tochterman teamed up with friends and fellow L.A. designers Karen Zambos (of Karen Zambos Vintage Couture) and Emily Brandle and Michelle Chaplin of Smoke & Mirrors to put together a runway show called “Here and Now,” showcasing current-season looks that were all available in the store.
“We thought, let’s put on this fashion show where you can immediately go out and buy the stuff right after,” said Zambos. “It’s a new way of shopping and it’s a fun neighborhood thing”
The ensembles, which also utilized Sigerson Morrison shoes and Noir jewelry, were styled, “the way we would actually dress,” noted Brandle. Which meant no over-the-top silliness, just a winning mix of stand-out pieces (jumpsuits, printed skirts, tunic tops, etc.) that had the primarily female crowd pulling out their credit cards — which was precisely the point.
