Janie Bryant, easily one of Hollywood’s most endearing costume designers (the Southern belle charm doesn’t hurt), has mined 60s-style with phenomenal success in AMC’s Mad Men (Jonathan Kanarek, owner of Jake Vintage in Los Feliz, says guys come in all the time with one request: “I want the Mad Men look.”) WWD’s Brenner Thomas reports that Bryant aims to expand her guest designer status in a licensing deal with Matchbook Company–Bryant hopes the licensees will include men’s and women’s apparel, footwear and swimwear, among other categories.
“Americans have been so casual for so long, I think they long for this kind of considered dressing,” Bryant says of our collective fascination with Mad Men’s sartorial panache. The show has already inspired collaborations with Banana Republic and Brooks Brothers, where Bryant recently designed a limited-edition two-button suit in homage to Don Draper et al.
