Aldo’s DIY Design Contest

Picture 5The next hot design collaboration to hit stores could be, well, yours – but you’ll have to hotfoot it.

Cult-y Quebec-based shoe label Aldo – known for its low-price-big-style shoes and accessories – it holding a D.I.Y. (that’s design it yourself) contest that closes this Friday.

Your task: To personalize any shoe or bag with creative elements of your choice – think leather or feathers, grommets, studs, lace, chains, wotever – photograph it against a white background and upload the picture onto the official contest website.

The prize: Top ten finalists handpicked by an uber-hip panel of judges from Aldo and Teen Vogue – including film director-turned-Aldo creative director Douglas Bensadoun and Teen Vogue’s West Coast contributing fashion editor Aya Kanai – each score an Aldo gift card worth $100.

The best design with the best foot forward – as voted by the public – then gets to see his or her shoe materialize as part of the brand’s fall/winter 2010 collection (it will also be featured in Teen Vogue’s special spring issue next year.)

Whoever can create his or her own version of McQueen’s 10-inch-high, bulbous but beautiful bead-and-bauble-encrusted boots is definitely going to get top marks from moi.
