Sad news:Â Fred Segal Flair, Santa Monica’s designer fashion emporium, closed its doors yesterday is closing its doors tomorrow.
Owned by former stylist Jeannine Braden, who’s also behind the chic Post 26 boutique in Brentwood (she co-owns it with Kay Sides of downtown’s Hatch Showroom), the store was a smartly curated spot on the otherwise bleak Santa Monica shopping landscape. It will be missed.
Braden did not immediately return calls for comment, but check back here for updates.
Update: Braden called back, and said the economic downturn was a major factor in shuttering the location. “The retail climate is definitely reinventing itself and needs a new matrix–a more grassroots approach.” she said, adding, “It’s time for a reinvention. This is a good thing. I’m grateful for the time here and the cool customers. But a lot of the customers are not spending so I have to change, too.”
Braden is currently packing up the store and business hours will continue through tomorrow.
Ever the optimist, she noted, “I came here like a girl and I want to leave like a lady.”
