Halloween 2009: Not Your Kid’s Costume

DomingoTired of dressing like a slutty nurse on Halloween?

This weekend, get a head start on your quest for the ultimate All Hallows Eve ensemble at two very unique sales.

On Saturday morning, head to the Roosevelt Hotel to browse thousands of straight-off-the-set wares at the Hollywood Studio Collection’s Movie Wardrobe Sale.

Expect to find an extensive selection of vintage and modern clothing, accessories, props and decor for as little as $10 (with proceeds benefiting 50 year-old charity Childhelp).

But here’s the catch: You won’t know which film your new frock appeared in. Bummer for major collectors; major score for someone just hoping to look fly while getting blitzed and bobbing for apples.

Another catch comes in the form of a $5 admission fee. But spend at least $15 and you get the fee back. Not too shabby.

More sophisticated costume-seekers will appreciate the elaborate, hand-sewn craftsmanship of the LA Opera’s Costume Shop, which is opening to the public for the first time ever on Saturday morning, too.

In addition to gowns worn by notable stage stars such as Carol Vaness, Jennifer Larmore and Maria Ewing, you’ll find lowly peasant garb and Medival-inspired outfits as well.

Lucky fellas can even score something straight off the back of superstar tenor Plácido Domingo. And if that doesn’t get all those slutty nurses riled up in front of the candy bowl, we don’t know what will.

Update: We just found out some of the specific movie costumes involved in the Hollywood Studio Collection sale and all we ask is that Trekkies put on a Depends before reading…Captain Kirk’s outfit from the last Star Trek movie as well as a Romulan battle suit will be mixed in with the rest of the goods. Pieces from  The Other Boleyn Girl, Matrix, V for Vendetta, the Last Samurai, Demolition Man and Red Planet will also be on hand. Yowza.
