We love the glam, left-of-center looks celebrity stylist Britt Bardo creates for her A-list clients, which have included Eva Mendes and Kate Hudson.
But we must confess that we’re scratching our heads over her latest endeavor.
The silver-haired stylist launched a three-piece “essentials” capsule collection for Mark cosmetics yesterday — lending her cool-girl cred to the Avon-owned makeup brand. The cardigan, cap-sleeve tee and slip dress are “a variation of three pieces that I live in and use on my celeb clients,” Bardo explains.
But we think the clothes, while indeed wearable basics, are a little…well, basic.
Bardo, who debuted a gorgeous clothing line, Rose, with fellow stylist Jewels Steger, last spring (only to shutter it a year later due to finances), proved to have a deft designing hand, turning out draped, flowing pieces that somehow managed to also feel edgy. We wish Bardo had given the Mark collection a bit more of that understated luxe.
Will the pieces sell? Probably. The under-$30 price tags are definitely a draw. But we can’t help thinking we could find lots of the same rummaging through discount racks at Express or Banana Republic.
And that’s probably not a great thing.
