When I lived in Tokyo, I was all about the sparkly pink, rhinestone-encrusted acrylic nails (trust me, you would be too if you spent enough time in the land of Hello Kitty and portable bedazzlers).
So when I packed up and moved back to the States, it was with more than just a tinge of regret that I toned down my talons at the request of my rather red-faced friends.
But just as I was ready to let my digits drip in a yawn-worthy french mani, I came across this gleaming gold nail ring from NYC-based bauble maker Bijules.
Designer Jules Kim’s smart, playful piece sits on top of the finger and extends into an expertly shaped, long fingernail. For added edge (as if it needed any extra), a slithering serpent comprises the ring’s base.
Music chicks including Rhianna and Katy Perry are fans. And Beyonce sported a diamond and ruby version in her recent “Sweet Dreams” video.
I can’t stop fantasizing about how the glam, polished-brass piece would look on top of my woefully unadorned hands. But at $166 a pop, I’ll have to keep dreaming for a full set.
But I’ll always have acrylic.
