Every now and again the fates give a gal the good fortune of crossing paths with a kindred spirit. Such was the case with meeting L.A. jewelry designer Kathryn Bentley.
I had been hearing about the ex-pat New Yorker — who designs the high-end jewelry line, Dream Collective — since she landed on the left coast a few months ago.
Luckily, while out and about in Hollywood last weekend, I was placed across from the lovely lady at a birthday dinner.
It’s hard to hide my unabashed adoration for Bentley’s singular handmade pieces. Dream Collective, kindled by the lithe beauty’s wanderlust, mixes substratal materials such as oxidized brass and bone, wood, and antique african beads with organic and geomteric sensibilities that evoke a primordial sense of time and place. Wearing one of Bentley’s pieces is like showcasing some pirated archeological treasure, discovered on a jaunt through Crystal Mountain, after a sound bath at the Integratron. You follow me?
As luck would have it, Bentley has launched Dream Collective’s new website today. The site includes pics of her pieces as well as Bentley’s blog, where she posts photos from her travels as well as images (dig those geo domes!) that inspire the young designer. The site also offers shoppers the opportunity to buy Bentley’s jewelry online.
All in all, it’s a dream come true.
