This is It, the AEG-produced, behind-the-scenes doc of Michael Jackson’s comeback tour rehearsals, is a bizarre love letter to a man whose studded lapels and peak-shoulder jackets couldn’t conceal a frame so frail, you wonder how he could have lasted the first week at London’s O2 Arena. I’m touched, albeit in a sort of Norma Desmond/Sunset Boulevard way.
The film’s two-week run officially begins October 29, but AEG is promoting advance screenings at L.A. Live’s Regal Cinemas for October 27, which will now open two weeks ahead of schedule.
Per the concert promoter, 3,000 advance tickets go on sale a minute past midnight on Sunday, but the line-up begins three days earlier (three?!) with the first 500 fanfreaks in line receiving a commemorative concert ticket from the London series.
Emotionally pornographic apparel and other schlock memorabilia are still available throughout the city. But for advance screening attire, we like the Chamone T-shirt ($62), available at Alpha Man on Melrose. —Krista Jennings
