When it comes to blazers this fall, it’s all about the shoulder — think geometric, strong and (if you’re feeling up to to it) bedazzled.

Though my impossibly chic gay boss would love it, I’m going to pass on the ubiquitous studded, sparkly Balmain version (as if I had the option with that price tag!) and go for something more versatile.

This Vince boyfriend blazer has been beckoning to me from more than one store window for weeks, and I finally slipped into Barney’s to try it on yesterday.

The slight padding on the shoulders achieves that playful, slight ’80s throwback look without going overboard, and the long, boyfriend cut and 3/4-length sleeves feel utterly modern.

I’m out $450, but I know I’ll be rocking it all fall and winter. I can’t wait to throw it on over a slouchy white tee with a long pendant necklace. And when it gets colder, dare I try slipping it over a pair of leather leggings?
