The big cosmetic companies are pushing gothy-dark nail colors for fall: navy, black, eggplant, sludge, etc. But in L.A., where it still feels like a sauna outside (or, alternately, a smoke house), nearly every other fashion-y girl is sporting this really specific shade of hot orangey-red.
Blame it on the city’s uber-insular zeitgeist, but it’s borderline bizarre how many people I’ve seen rocking the vibrant hue, which feels very day-at-the-races, circa 1940s. Nars’ “Hunger,” a limited-edition rehash of a discontinued hue, is the one I’ve been painting on. But China Glaze’s “Japanese Koi” will get you there cheaper.
